The Add button in the document toolbar opens a searchable catalog of tools and imports. Search by name, use the category sections, or filter by pack to find an item. You can mark tools as favorites so they appear together at the top of the catalog.

Add a tool

Choose a tool to place it on the toolbar. Most tools become active immediately. Select the active tool again to open its properties. Drag tools on the toolbar to reorder them. See the tool overview for how tools work and the individual tool guides for their settings.

The catalog groups tools by what they do:

• Normal tools draw or edit content on the canvas.
• Surface tools create shapes, textures, tables, and other rectangular content.
• View tools change how you interact with the canvas.
• Import tools bring content into the document. See Importing.
• Action tools run when selected, such as Undo or Redo. Use the play button on a catalog item to run it once without adding it to the toolbar.

Tools can also come from packs, so the available presets can differ between documents and installations.

Import content

The Import section offers file, OneNote, and camera entries when available on your device. Select an entry to import once, or use its pin button to add a reusable import tool to the toolbar. Available file formats and what happens after import are covered in Importing.
