Settings

Open Settings with the gear button on the Home view or from the Butterfly menu in a document. Use the search field to find a setting by name. Many settings pages also have a reset action for returning that section to its defaults.

General and Personalization

General shows the current version and links to release notes, support, source code, and project information. Personalization controls the app’s theme, design, language, interface density, high contrast mode, and the native title bar where available.

Behaviors

Choose whether Butterfly saves automatically, saves after a delay, keeps a visible Save button, or requires manual saving. If you choose delayed autosave, set the delay here too. You can also choose what opens at startup and whether the app starts in full screen.

The Document states page under Behaviors controls which editor state Butterfly remembers between sessions. It can remember the current page, camera position, locks, selected tool, navigator, layers, and areas. These are view and editing preferences; they are separate from the document content itself.

Other Behavior settings control canvas navigation, rendering, and how imported material is placed. For example, Spread to pages affects page based imports, while Image scale changes the size used for imported images.

Inputs and View

Inputs has separate Mouse, Touch, Keyboard, and Stylus pages. Assign tool activators and document actions, adjust input sensitivity, and use the pointer test to inspect input events. See Shortcuts and Stylus support for detailed controls.

View changes the layout of the editor: zoom controls, properties panel, toolbar position and size, navigation rail, and navigator previews. Its Home section controls file thumbnails and whether file extensions are shown. These settings affect the interface across documents; the Utilities camera tab changes the view of the current document.

Data and Connections

Data contains backup and data directory options, template and pack management, file export, and settings import, export, or reset. Before changing the data directory, see Storage for where Butterfly keeps documents and reusable assets.

Connections manages external storage on supported native platforms. Add a connection, choose the default connection, or open one to manage it. See Remote storage for the WebDAV setup steps and offline sync behavior. Connections are unavailable in the web app.

Experiments and Logs

Experiments contains optional features that may change, including Collaboration. Logs provides diagnostic information when you need to investigate a problem or report a bug.
