Importing

Butterfly can bring documents and media into an open note. Open Add in the document toolbar and choose an item in the Import section. The available entries depend on your device; the file picker can offer more formats than the quick entries shown in the catalog.

Choose a source

• File opens the file picker for supported documents and media.
• OneNote selects a .one section or .onepkg notebook package. See the OneNote guide for export steps and conversion limits.
• Camera captures an image on devices that provide a camera.

The import workflow also supports Butterfly notes (.bfly and .tbfly), Xournal++ (.xopp), Markdown, images, SVG, and PDF. The storage guide explains the two Butterfly note formats.

Place content on the canvas

1. Open the note where you want the content.
2. Choose Add → Import, then select a source and file.
3. Follow the import dialog. Some formats have additional options before you confirm.
4. Place or adjust the imported content on the canvas as needed.

For repeated imports of the same type, use the pin button beside an import entry in Add. The resulting toolbar tool starts that import when used on the canvas, at the position you choose. You can change its import type from the tool properties.

An imported SVG is placed as an image rather than being converted into separate editable Butterfly shapes. If you need to keep editing the original Butterfly note, import or open a .bfly or .tbfly file instead. To produce files for another app, see Exporting.
